Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov paid a working visit to the District of Vozhega as part of a series of visits throughout the Vologda Oblast examining economic and social development of regions.
The District of Vozhega is located in the north of the Vologda Region. Its border regions are the Arkhangelsk Region, the districts of Kirillov, Verkhovazh’ye, Syamzha, Ust’-Kubenskoye, Kharovsk within the Vologda Oblast. Geographical conditions are associated with a high degree of forest cover (78 % of its total land covered by forests, both coniferous and deciduous). The District of Vozhega stands out for its folk traditions and local craftsmen, who practise techniques pioneered by their fathers and grandfathers before them. The history of the Vozhega District is connected with Lake Vozhe. Historically, Lake Vozhe was on the trading route connecting the basings of the Volga and the Onega via the Sheksna River.
The main objective of the visit is to inspect economic and social development of the district, the most important infrastructure facilities of the district and to get acquainted with the plans for their development.
Dairy farming takes a dominating position in the industry. Thanks to the measures of state support, farms are being built, equipment is updated and new technologies are introduced. Development and support of agriculture was in the highlight of the discussion during a working visit of Oleg Kuvshinnikov to the District of Vozhega.
To begin with, the Governor met with the head of the District of Vozhega and inspected the roads of the district. Then Mr. Kuvshinnikov proceeded to a farm construction site, a stadium, a local school and centre of customs and traditions.
The program of the visit also included participation in a meeting of the City Planning Council and a meeting with the residents of the district.
