Medal for Good Heart: Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov presented Vologda's volunteers with presidential awards.
On behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, the Governor of the Vologda Region presented the first twelve volunteers with medals for their selfless contribution to the organisation of the All-Russian action of mutual assistance “#МыВместе” (“we are together”). A total of 193 Vologda’s citizens will receive this award approved by the President.
Because of the pandemic, volunteer centres were established in all districts of the Vologda Region in March 2020. The United Volunteer Centre in Vologda became the main coordinator. The Centre has been helping the elderly and people with reduced mobility. Every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. the Centre's employees have been receiving applications from citizens for assistance in purchasing medicines, food, personal hygiene items and rubbish disposal.
The United Volunteer Centre received more than 10,000 calls from elderly people alone. Approximately 2,000 volunteers were involved in the work and 320 tonnes of food products were delivered free of charge to residents of the region.
Business has also joined the “#МыВместе” campaign. A great support was provided by private companies of the region in purchasing products, providing protective equipment, transport and fuel.
The authorities also helped with road transport. Four vehicles of the Regional Government were used to deliver products to the districts.
Among the recipients of the award were volunteers, coordinators, public officials and heads of organisations who took part in the “#МыВместе” campaign.
"On behalf of the President and on my own behalf, I would like to thank you so much for what you have been doing. We have a long way ahead to help and support Vologda’s citizens. The volunteer movement has become a part of our lives. We will do our best to provide you with everything you need to go through this difficult period of pandemic together. Once again I realised that we have a huge number of people with big hearts in our region," said Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov.
